Flooring Calculator
Calculate floor area from multiple rectangles and cut-outs, then estimate waste and packs needed.
Check pack coverage, batch numbers and laying direction before ordering. Awkward rooms may need extra waste.
Useful notes
How much waste should I allow?
Ten percent is a common starting point. Use more for awkward rooms, diagonal layouts or patterned flooring.
Can I add alcoves?
Yes. Add another rectangle for alcoves or extra sections, and remove cut-outs for fixed areas.
Notes and next steps
How it works
Estimate floor area, waste and number of flooring packs from known or measured dimensions.
Estimating method: Adjusted area = floor area × (1 + waste percentage ÷ 100). Packs = adjusted area ÷ pack coverage, rounded up.
Worked example
12 m² with 10% waste is 13.2 m². At 2 m² per pack, buy 7 packs.
Common mistakes
- Not allowing for cuts and pattern direction.
- Using the wrong pack coverage.
- Forgetting thresholds, alcoves or cupboards.
