How it works

Estimate mulch volume and bag count from bed area, mulch depth and bag size.

Estimating method: Litres = area × depth in metres × 1000. Bags = litres ÷ bag size, rounded up.

Worked example

20 m² at 50 mm deep needs 1000 L. With 50 L bags, buy about 20 bags.

Common mistakes
  • Using too shallow a depth for weed suppression.
  • Not checking bag size in litres.
  • Forgetting uneven beds and settled mulch.
