How to calculate flooring packs

How to do it

1. Measure the floor area.
2. Add waste for cuts, mistakes and awkward rooms.
3. Divide the waste-adjusted area by pack coverage.
4. Round up because you cannot normally buy part of a pack.

Worked example

12 m² with 10% waste is 13.2 m². At 2 m² per pack, buy 7 packs.

Common mistakes

• Not allowing for cuts and pattern direction.
• Using the wrong pack coverage.
• Forgetting thresholds, alcoves or cupboards.

When this is not suitable

Do not treat any quick estimate as a final specification where safety, contracts, regulations or expensive purchases depend on it.
