Cooking Time Scaler

Estimate adjusted cooking time when changing food weight.

This is only a rough estimate. Use safe internal temperatures and recipe guidance.

Notes and next steps

How it works

Estimate a rough cooking time change from original and new weights.

Estimating method: Estimated time = original time × (new weight ÷ original weight)^0.67.

Worked example

A 1000 g item cooked for 60 minutes scaled to 1500 g estimates about 79 minutes.

Common mistakes
  • Using it for food safety decisions.
  • Scaling temperature and time blindly.
  • Ignoring shape, thickness and oven performance.
