How it works
Estimate studs and board area for a simple timber stud wall.
Estimating method: Stud count ≈ ceil(wall length ÷ stud spacing) + 1. Board area = length × height, each side as required.
Worked example
A 3 m wall with 400 mm centres needs about 9 studs including ends. At 2.4 m high, one side is 7.2 m².
Common mistakes
- Forgetting end studs, noggins and openings.
- Ignoring head/bottom plates.
- Using an estimate as a structural design.
