VAT Calculator workflow

Use the VAT calculator when you need to move between net, VAT and gross amounts for quotes, invoices, receipts or shopping totals. Enter the amount you know, choose the VAT rate, then check the other values before copying or saving the result.

Step 1: choose net or gross

Use net when VAT still needs to be added. Use gross when the price already includes VAT and you want to see the VAT portion.

Step 2: check the VAT rate

Most UK standard-rate checks use 20%, but some goods and services use different rates. The result is only as good as the rate you enter.

Step 3: keep the calculation

Copy the net, VAT and gross amounts into a quote, invoice note, receipt check or project sheet.
